Hi
I am just wondering if anyone knows how I can get a hold of military service records.
I am trying to research my grandfathers military history. I believe he was in the 2nd Border Regiment and lost his arm during WW1. I am surprised I don't seem to be able to find anything in regard to this as he must have had records, pension etc.
Thank you

Hi Barbara (or should I call you 3rd cousin), we meet again. Very Happy

Frank's regimental number is given as 6196 on his medal card. I'll send it to you. Smile

Ancestry doesn't have his pension record Sad

Once I had his number, the Border Regiment Museum was able to find stuff about my grandfather.

PostSubject: Eland - Greener Genealogy   Tue Oct 13, 2009 5:55 pm

Hi Smile
first of all I wanna say how much I enjoyed browsing through this site and finding out more about Whitehaven and even seing some of it on the photo posts.

I am researching the family of James Eland born 1860 in Cockermouth. 1881 he married Hannah Greener in Whitehaven. As far as I know they had following children: Mary; Florence May;Joseph;Jane;Hannah;John T(Jack);Robert;James and Sara. From what I have found on different USA census records they were all born in either Whitehaven/Cockermouth/Workington/Distington .

The family left the UK in 1904. Voyage was Liverpool to New York and they eventually settled in Pennsylvania.

Just last week I requested a marriage certificate for James Eland and Hanna Greener since I don't have a lot of info to the Elands/Greener prior to coming to the USA.

Do any of the names sound familiar to anyone?
Any hints, tips on how to research further?

Thank you and sunny greetings from Florida sunny
Stephanie

Thank you Geoff and thank you Jeff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

didnt think I was going to get a reply that fast. This is a bunch of great stuff for me to work with.
I did come across the Mirehouse name before (old family bible) but didnt see or find a connection - until now Smile
Since I have never visited the Whitehaven area, I would have never connectet the Mirehouse and Myrus names.

Again - THANK YOU !!!
