PostSubject: The Boyle family.   Fri Mar 19, 2010 7:22 pm

I am trying to trace my ancestors - Robert Boyle & family.
He came to Whitehaven from Antrim, Ireland in approximately 1861 - at the time of the census and was a coal miner. He was 18 and was a boarder with his brother Patrick, who was 16, at 52 Middle Row. I think the family they boarded with were called Cain.
I also know that in the 1871 census he was married to Isabella. She was born in Whitehaven. They lived at 101 Middle Row , New Houses in the ecclesiastical district of Mount Pleasant.
But I have no idea of her surname. Does anyone recognise these facts? I also have no record of their marriage. It would have been in the local Catholic church.
I look forward to hearing from someone who has some facts or can suggest where I can get more information.

Hi stones6 and welcome Smile

I think this would be the marriage, wouldn't it?

Marriages Jun 1864
BOYLES Robert Whitehaven 10b 828
TINNION Isabella Whitehaven 10b 828

The address in 1861 was 59 Middle Row.

I think Isabella was in Egremont in 1861 but at home with her parents in 1851 ("TINNIAN") on Middle Row.

Thank you Geoff E.
You've written BOYLES.
On the 1861, 71, 91 census it's written as BOYLE.
Where did you find your information?

It appears as BOYLES in the GRO index - I found it on FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
By the time it reached the GRO index it would have been transcribed 2 or 3 times, so ample chance for a mistake. Rolling Eyes

With the same page reference is Isabella TINNION
