PostSubject: Police - Facebook concerns   Thu Oct 08, 2009 12:34 pm

I had a request to boycot Whiteline taxis on Facebook, but declined the invitation - even though It would be nice to dish out justice without a court hearing, it's just not the done thing. That's why I declined. The courts are there to decide right from wrong. Not a lynch mob - even if the police and courts do take ages to get things resolved.

In this case, there may be an explanation as to what happened. People jumping the gun, condemning the firm (and driver) without firm evidence is wrong. If someone, or something is guilty, then let them be judged in a court of law. Don't judge them before they have had a chance to speak - no matter how painful the circumstances may be.

Let the police do their job.

Quote:
Cumbria Police are concerned about allegations made by the group administrators - the group has over 1,800 members.

On the group, there are allegations that the taxi firm have been obstructive during the police investigation into an accident in which a 12-year-old boy on a pedal cycle was struck by a Red Skoda Octavia that failed to stop at the scene. The group is also displaying injuries to the boy in a online photo gallery.

The incident happened on Esk Avenue, Whitehaven at 12pm on Saturday, October 3.

A man in his twenties from the Whitehaven area was later arrested and subsequently bailed pending further police investigation. The boy was treated at hospital for his injuries and is recovering well at home.

Inspector Craig Lory, of Whitehaven Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "A full investigation is underway into this incident and both Whiteline Taxis' staff and management have assisted us throughout this enquiry.

"We would also like to make contributors to social networking forums aware that police actively monitor sites for criminal content."

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Whitehaven Police on 0845 33 00 247 or alternatively provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
